anything done without love is dangerous

The Cosmos at our Fingertips

THE COSMOS AT OUR FINGERTIPS

I have written about humanity’s destiny to evolve their consciousness to a cosmic level. But what is the nature of our Cosmos and how will we align to it?

Religious and scientific cosmology agree on one point: the element fire is at the heart of the manifested Universe.

In ancient thinking the highest Heaven was a place of fire the Empyrean, from the Greek empyros meaning ‘in or on fire’. In the Hebrew Bible God is described as fire Deuteronomy 4:24 The Lord your God is a raging fire Hebrews 12:28-29 Our God is a consuming fire. The highest echelon of angels, the Seraphim meaning ‘the burning ones’ or ‘angels of fire’ reside in the divine presence a consuming fire of love; a love which enflames their beings radiating down the angelic hierarchies. This fiery God began creation, in a formless, empty darkness, by saying ‘Let there be light’, piercing the darkness with his radiant presence.

Philolaus c.470-c.385 BC, a student of Pythagorean (Pythagoras c.570-c.500-490 was the first to coin the word Kosmos viewing the Universe as a rational, unified whole) teachings in the disciplines of philosophy, mathematics and astronomy, posited a central fire in the middle of the creation.  Today’s science, has verified everything happened with a very hot big bang, in fact this beginning involving great heat is essential to produce a Universe that is as supremely biofriendly as ours. The God of the Hebrew Bible beginning creation with light, is also scientifically understandable when considering Einstein’s assertion that light and matter are just aspects of the same thing; a fact verified in 2021 when scientists created matter from light, using the RHIC (Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider) at the US Department of Energy national laboratory in Brookhaven, by colliding very energetic photons. Everything is light (even our DNA and water absorb photons).

This divine fire in secular and religious writings worldwide is equated with Love. In the Hindu sacred text Kanda Guru Kavasa oh holy great flame. . . the thing which is everywhere is only Love. . . Bahá’ĭ faith let thy face be bright with the fire of God’s love. In Islam, Ibn Sĭnā identifies Love as the perpetual divine force within the emanating structure of the Universe, Mullā Sadras maintains without love the creation of the Cosmos could not have been possible.

This love/fire at the heart of the macrocosm manifests in the microcosm of our lives. On the Sufi mystical path to union with the divine, love is fire. St John of the Cross described God and his love burning within O living flame of love. St. Hildegard of Bingen I am the fiery life of the essences of God. St. Francis de Sales When we repent fully, God places his sacred fire in our heart. In romantic erotic love another type of fire burns, the Song of Solomon 8:6 Place me like a seal over your heart. . . for love is as strong as death, its jealousy unyielding as the grave. It burns like a mighty fire. Edmund Spenser . . . my hot desire. . .  my exceeding heat is not allayed by her heart frozen cold, but I burn much more in boiling sweat . . . and feel my flames augmented manifold. Poet Frederick Parker when lips taste fire in a hungry kiss.

Do we humans have an innate understanding of the metaphysical nature of fire when we endow light with three qualities? The ‘light’ of enlightenment that irradiates the soul with mystical union with the Divine, symbolized by the halo of light adorning the head of a saint; people aware of supersensible spiritual realities around us often speak of working with the light, or calling on the powerful forces of light for aid and also acknowledge warfare is ongoing on other planes between the light and the dark to safeguard the spiritual heritage of humanity. Then there is the ‘light’ of reason that illuminates the mind with the starburst of new ideas P. D. Ouspensky . . . the birth of ideas, is the light which comes from love, then this light is a great fire an intellectual furnace capable of manifesting a creation of extreme complexity from the biofriendly solar system to human DNA – the great fire is a great mind. Thirdly the mundane light that enables life to exist, the love element is evident in our sun who holds us and our solar system in the protective embrace of its solar winds which reaches to the outer region of Pluto before meeting the interstellar medium; creating a great bubble called the heliosphere – a shield protecting the planets from galactic cosmic radiation.

By its very nature a Cosmos originating in a love/light fabric has free-will encoded in it. If we look at the lowest expression of the microcosm, an atom, there is a free-will dance of opposites between the negatively charged electrons (the primary carriers of electricity in solids) outside the nucleus being constantly attracted to the nucleus of protons and neutrons; pulling closer, but its own kinetic energy sending it flying away. A dance for completion, the same engaged in by human beings. In Plato’s philosophical text ‘Symposium’ love is described as being . . .born into every human being; it calls back the halves of our original nature together; it tries to make one out of two and heal the wound of human nature. And this love, an expression of free-will, can’t be forced, there is no tyranny strong enough to make someone love someone else when in their heart they do not.

Love with its free-will code and dance of opposites towards completion produces another element as Rudolf Steiner stated The cosmos has its source and origin in love egotism became the natural off-shoot of love. Together with selfishness evil came into the world, it had to be so because without the evil man could not lay hold of the good. We only truly know the light – of reason, of the divine, of the sun – when it chases away the dark. The conflict between the light and dark within us produces an alchemy of higher light, a nature imbued with an understanding of its true love potential through battling its chaotic antithesis – as gold is refined in a crucible and purged of impurities. Paul Kocher in ‘Master of Middle-Earth. The Achievement of J. R. R. Tolkien’ writes of how evil producing good is woven into J. R. R. Tolkien’s ‘Lord of Rings’ throughout there is reference to a hidden moral design working behind events, in which evil deeds produce a greater good and even hatred hurts itself; if the Hobbits Pippin and Merry hadn’t been kidnapped by evil Orcs and managed to escape into Fangorn Forest the Ents would never have been roused to fight against the malevolent machinations of Saruman; if Gandalf hadn’t died fighting the monstrous Balrog he would never have been taken to Lorien to receive healing from the Elves and emerge as Gandalf the White strong in purpose and wisdom without whom the fight against the darkness would have failed.

A darkness that was created in the same divine fire and therefore the ultimate dark place hell, in Christian theology is depicted as a fiery place, where sinful lost human souls are boiled in cauldrons fed by perpetual fire and demons live in a fiery pit, presided over by the fiery presence of the Devil. The fire of divine love, the striving towards communion, completion whether with God or a human being, becomes the all-consuming destructive fire of unbridled lust, obsession, rage and violence, blinding reason, which in all its forms is about selfish domination.

Our lives are like a refining fire in which we have the opportunity to realize our love/light essential being or not, an essential being intimately a part of the Cosmos, made of the same light stuff; cosmic consciousness is our birth-right When the whole race shall have attained to cosmic consciousness our idea of God shall be realized in man Balzac.

A small task, channel the cosmic love/light, imagine it flowing through the centres of your palms and direct its innate healing power over your body, also attune your mind and heart (as the Ancient Egyptians and the Tibetans believe the heart is the centre of consciousness, the brain is the relay system) to its healing rays. The Cosmos is at your fingertips.

Help make cDt a multi-dimensional space a reality – where our cosmic journey can really begin.
